Investigating
& Marking
Record
Select and
record from first land observation, experience and the imagination in a variety
of ways. Record with some accuracy
and attention to detail.
Gather
Resources
Select and record visual and other information in a sketch book and experiment with ideas suggested.
Explore
and use
Line
& Tone
Confidently attempts to create realistic representations of increasingly sophisticated images that they observe, remember or imagine.
Creates images
demonstrating an increasing level of attention to perspective
- i.e.
attempts to use perspective to create depth in 2D images.
Creates images demonstrating an increasing level of attention to scale - i.e. can create an enlargement or miniature of a selected image.
Creates images expressing ideas/feelings.
Experiments confidently and can innovate different mark making techniques (see P.O.S.)
Can use different grades of pencil to create tone in their artwork.
Attempts to use tone to create depth in a 2D image.
Talk confidently about the use of line and tone and other visual elements in their own work and the work of others, demonstrating confident opinions and using art vocabulary.
Colour
Experiment purposefully in mixing/applying colour to their artwork and evaluate the effects.
Understand that opaque colour is colour which covers a surface, therefore, it is the colour we see, not the surface.
Understand that transparent colour is colour which allows the surface beneath to be visible.
Experiment with opaque and transparent colour mediums, observe the effects created and relate these effects to purpose. (see P.O.S.)
Talk confidently about the use of colour and other visual elements in their own work and the work of others, demonstrating confident opinions and using art vocabulary.
Pattern
Respond confidently and enthusiastically to a 'theme'.
a) use design skills and 'mixed media' knowledge to select resources and create their own art work
b) work freely - experimenting, reflecting and modifying as they progress
c) talk during the design and making processes, in relation to the responses, intentions, progress, modifications, evaluations and developments in future work.
Experiment confidently in using a selection of pattern making techniques....
a) Culture block printing
b) Screenprinting
c) Logos
d) Repeated images
e) Marbling
f) Optical patterns
Talk confidently about the use of pattern and other visual elements in their own work and the work of others, demonstrating confident opinions and using art vocabulary.
Texture
Respond confidently and enthusiastically to a 'theme'
a) use design skills and 'mixed media' knowledge to select resources and create their own art work
b) work freely - experimenting, reflecting and modifying as they progress.
c) Talk during the design and making process, in relation to the responses, intentions, progress, modifications, evaluations and developments in future works.
Understand the 'Art Dossier' is
Design and create an Art Dossier.
Understand that 'Mosiac' is 'a carefully selected arrangement of broken pieces' glued to a surface to create an image.
Design and create a Mosiac.
Talk confidently
about the use of texture and other visual elements in their own work and the
work of others, demonstrating confident opinions and using art vocabulary.
Shape,
Form & Space
Can recognise, sort and match basic 20 shapes - circle, triangle, square, rectangle.
Can use basic 2D shapes to create an image.
Can use plasticine and dough to create simple 3D models - some familiar, some unfamiliar.
Can construct various forms - some architectural - using a variety of materials - junk materials, wooden bricks, lego etc.
Can create a simple sculpture using natural/made materials.
Review
& Modify
Talk about the
positive/negative aspects to their artwork in simple terms
- eg
'My tree is nice and green' or 'The spots on my ladybird are too big'.
Knowledge
& Understanding
Develop
Understanding
When encouraged, talk about works of Art, Craft & Design in simple terms - eg 'I have made my model ship out of plasticine. Jack has made his ship out of lego'.
Respond
to & Evaluate
Begin to respond to ideas, methods or approaches - eg create an observational painting of a flower arrangement attempting Van Gogh's stroke painting technique. Encourage the child to talk about their experience in simple terms.
