Saxons took Blackrod by storm

 King Arthur Defeats Saxons at Blackrod.

 

1066AD

 Roger of Poictou, who commanded right wing of William the Conqueror’s cavalry at Hastings, granted the Honour of Lancaster.  The Horwich family of Whittle arrived about this time.


1066AD

 Horwich Chase mentioned as the second forest of Manchester in Domesday Book.

 Robert Grelley, Baron of Manchester, prosecuted Martin de Rumworth for carrying off deer in Horwich Chase.

 

1322

 Sixteen plots of pasture in Horwich.  Robert Bruce’s Army removed cattle from Twitchells (Near Walker Fold) during a Mid-summer raid.


1452

 Geoffrey Greenhalgh held lands at Horwich Lee Wood, near the boundary with Heaton.

 Four tenants holdings in Horwich held by Radcliffes, Greenhalghs, Hulmes and Heatons.  Mention of Thirteen Houses at this time.
